Supporting our coastal industries
Yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting with some of New Brunswick’s hardest-working people — our lobster and gaspereau fishermen and the processors who help power our coastal economy.
What I heard was not a demand for handouts.
It was a call for leadership.
Across our coastal communities, fishermen are doing their part. They get up before dawn, work through difficult conditions, and continue to provide for their families and our province.
Processors are investing, adapting, and fighting to stay competitive in a changing global market. But they cannot do it alone while critical infrastructure is neglected by government.
Wharves are deteriorating. Essential infrastructure is aging. Communities that depend on the fishery are being asked to carry more risk while receiving less support.
The current New Brunswick government has failed to understand that strong coastal industries are not a burden — they are an economic engine for New Brunswick.
As leader of the New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party, I will fight for strategic investments and stronger partnerships with the fishing and processing sectors.
We need a government that believes in rural New Brunswick again — a government that restores hope instead of excuses.
Our fishermen built these communities. They deserve a government that works just as hard as they do.
